2019 ITTF-ATTU Asian Championships
Tuesday 17th September
Splendid setting welcomes all
A splendid setting venue was the Bangsal Kepatihan, the date was Saturday 14th September, the time was 6.30 pm, the occasion a dinner to welcome players, coaches and officials to the 2019 ITTF-ATTU Asian Championships in the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta.
Guests were warmly greeted in the marble clad building open to the elements, a fact that gave the occasion an extra ingredient. Tradition was very much the theme of the occasion. Musicians played from start to finish as guests arrived and later departed; the sense of respect evident.
Dancers in splendid authentic costume graced the stage, the rhythm slow but precise, one which to some extent epitomised the ethos of Indonesia. The people of Yogyakarta are gentle by nature, quiet reserved and respectful, pleased to welcome visitors and especially proud to open their doors those who are household names, having reached the greatest heights in their chosen sport.
A menu which reflected the local fare was served with grace and efficiency; the waiters showing the utmost respect to those who had travelled from far and near
Distinguished guests in the guise of Paku Alam, the Deputy Governor of Yogyakarta attended alongside Komjen Pol Oegroseno, the President of the Indonesia Table Tennis Association; all addressed those present as the Cai Zhenhua, the President of the Asian Table Tennis Union.
A most pleasant occasion, it was enjoyed by all; one which brought together people from different ethnic backgrounds in the harmony of sport, the sport of table tennis.
